A male passenger has been charged after Customs officials discovered a firearm and ammunition in his possession at Piarco International Airport last week, according to a media release from the Customs and Excise Division.

The passenger arrived at Piarco on Saturday, August 15, aboard JetBlue Airways Flight B617 from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. During routine Customs operations, he was found to be in possession of one Ruger firearm, one magazine, and twelve rounds of .380 ammunition.

He was formally charged under Sections 212(a) and 213(a) of the Customs Act, Chapter 78:01. The accused appeared before a Master of the High Court on Tuesday, August 18. The charges were laid indictably, and he was not called upon to enter a plea. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 9, 2026.
