THE House of Representatives will debate stand-your-ground legislation when it sits at the Red House at 1.30 pm on November 26. This is one of two parliamentary sittings on the day. The Senate will sit from 10 am to debate a private motion by Independent Senator Alicia Lalite-Ettienne about establishing a comprehensive national strategic plan for people with disabilities.
According to the House Order Paper for November 26, the main item on the agenda is the Home Invasion (Self-Defence and Defence of Property) Bill, 2025. Attorney General John Jeremie is listed to open debate on the bill.
The objective of the legislation is to establish the offence of home invasion and to provide that a person has no duty to retreat when acting in self–defence or defence of his property.
