A PH taxi driver who was shot, beaten and forced by police to sign a statement after being arrested in 2002 has been awarded $300,000 by the High Court after successfully suing the State for malicious prosecution.
Dillon Peters was awarded $250,000 in damages and a further $50,000 in exemplary damages by Justice Sherlanne Pierre, who delivered her judgment on Wednesday in the claim against the Office of the Attorney General.
The award also includes interest and prescribed costs.
