Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo presented the 2027 national budget where he sought to put more money in the pockets of vulnerable citizens whilst taxing big spenders and tightening the tax net to raise revenue.
For two-and-a-half hours Tancoo outlined fiscal details in the budget themed “A People-Centred Approach: Investing in Communities, Transforming the Economy and Securing a Sustainable Future”.
Among the goodies were a $250 increase in grants for pensioners, persons with disabilities and families dependent on public assistance, greater tax relief for retirees and new education and employment opportunities for young people.
