Do­mini­can politi­cian Lennox Lin­ton has won a ma­jor con­sti­tu­tion­al case chal­leng­ing a de­ci­sion by that coun­try’s pres­i­dent to leave the po­si­tion of Op­po­si­tion Leader va­cant for al­most 18 months.

In a re­cent de­ci­sion, East­ern Caribbean Supreme Court Judge Zainab Jawara-Ala­mi up­held the con­sti­tu­tion­al chal­lenge brought by Lin­ton, who held the post be­tween 2014 and 2022 be­fore be­ing suc­ceed­ed by Jes­ma Paul-Vic­tor.

Lin­ton, through his lawyer Anand Ram­lo­gan, SC, of Free­dom Law Cham­bers, filed the case af­ter Do­mini­can Pres­i­dent Syl­vanie Bur­ton failed to ap­point an Op­po­si­tion Leader fol­low­ing Paul-Vic­tor’s res­ig­na­tion in June 2024.
