Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Chris Dehring has de­scribed Sir Garfield Sobers as “the em­bod­i­ment of West In­dies crick­et at its finest, bold, bril­liant, in­no­v­a­tive and un­apolo­get­i­cal­ly ex­cel­lent.” He not­ed that Sobers’ ex­tra­or­di­nary achieve­ments trans­formed the game and in­spired gen­er­a­tions of play­ers to dream be­yond what had once seemed pos­si­ble.

CWI has joined Bar­ba­dos, the wider Caribbean, and the glob­al crick­et fra­ter­ni­ty in mourn­ing the pass­ing of The Right Ex­cel­lent Sir Garfield Sobers, wide­ly re­gard­ed as the great­est all‑round crick­eter in his­to­ry.

Dehring em­pha­sized that Sobers’ life serves as both an in­spi­ra­tion and a re­spon­si­bil­i­ty for those en­trust­ed with lead­ing West In­dies crick­et to­day. “He es­tab­lished a stan­dard of ex­cel­lence that con­tin­ues to de­fine the as­pi­ra­tions of every play­er who wears the ma­roon,” he said.
