Cricket West Indies (CWI) Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring has described Sir Garfield Sobers as “the embodiment of West Indies cricket at its finest, bold, brilliant, innovative and unapologetically excellent.” He noted that Sobers’ extraordinary achievements transformed the game and inspired generations of players to dream beyond what had once seemed possible.
CWI has joined Barbados, the wider Caribbean, and the global cricket fraternity in mourning the passing of The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as the greatest all‑round cricketer in history.
Dehring emphasized that Sobers’ life serves as both an inspiration and a responsibility for those entrusted with leading West Indies cricket today. “He established a standard of excellence that continues to define the aspirations of every player who wears the maroon,” he said.
