Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has ex­pressed con­do­lences fol­low­ing the pass­ing of crick­et leg­end Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers, de­scrib­ing him as one of the Caribbean’s most dis­tin­guished sons and a glob­al sport­ing icon.

In a state­ment is­sued on Fri­day, Per­sad-Bisses­sar said Trinidad and To­ba­go joined Bar­ba­dos, the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty and the in­ter­na­tion­al sport­ing fra­ter­ni­ty in mourn­ing Sobers’ death.

She ex­tend­ed con­do­lences to his fam­i­ly, the Gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of Bar­ba­dos, the West In­dies crick­et­ing fra­ter­ni­ty and ad­mir­ers world­wide.
