Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) Pres­i­dent Dr Kishore Shal­low has led trib­utes to Sir Garfield Sobers, de­scrib­ing the Bar­ba­di­an leg­end as the great­est crick­eter the world has ever seen and a sym­bol of Caribbean ex­cel­lence whose lega­cy will en­dure for gen­er­a­tions.

In a state­ment fol­low­ing Sir Garfield's pass­ing, Dr Shal­low said the re­gion had lost a fig­ure whose life be­came in­ter­twined with the hopes, dreams and iden­ti­ty of Caribbean peo­ple.

"There are mo­ments in the sto­ry of a peo­ple when the life of one in­di­vid­ual be­comes wo­ven in­to the hopes, dreams, and iden­ti­ty of gen­er­a­tions," he said. "To­day, the Caribbean mourns the pass­ing of such an in­di­vid­ual."
