THE High Court has awarded $200,000 in damages to a senior professor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) after finding that defamatory allegations made against him by a colleague were false, malicious and unsupported by evidence.
In a judgment delivered on Monday, Justice Kevin Ramcharan ruled in favour of Wasi Khan, in a claim brought against then-fellow academic Valerie Stoute.
The claim stemmed from a series of written complaints circulated by Stoute in 2019 to members of UTT’s board and senior officials.
