The Ministry of Foreign and Caricom affairs has announced that US warship, the USS Gravely- an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer- will visit Trinidad and Tobago next week, mooring in Port of Spain.
The ship is one of at least three of its kind (including the USS Jason Dunham and Sampson) which were deployed as part of the US’ military buildup in the Caribbean since September 2.
It has been used to conduct counter-narcotics patrols, maritime surveillance, and escort missions. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers contain advanced radar and missile systems that provide both defensive and offensive capabilities.
