Minutes after the front seat passenger pulled 64-year-old Bhisham Phillip from his mangled silver Mazda RX-8, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

While the passenger suffered minor injuries, Phillip, of Montrose, Chaguanas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told the Express that shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, Phillip was driving on the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of the Divali Nagar, when he swerved from hitting another vehicle and lost control.
