Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has signalled she will take decisive action if Priority Bus Route (PBR) maxi-taxi operators increase fares and burden the commuting public.
She also continued her criticism of Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles, who held a news conference yesterday stating that the new road traffic fines and increased PBR permit fees will force citizens to pay more and face hardship.
From January 1, 2026, maxi-taxi operators will be required to pay higher permit fees. Legal Notice No. 475, issued under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, increases the toll for maxi-taxis operating on the PBR from $300 to $600 per quarter.
