A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament K. Sharma Solomon has criticised the Irfaan Ali Government’s handling of the cost-of-living crisis, arguing that billions of dollars in public spending and repeated relief measures have failed to deliver meaningful reductions in food prices for ordinary Guyanese.
In a statement issued on November 6, Solomon said the Government’s own economic figures raised serious questions about the effectiveness of its agricultural policies and management of the country’s growing oil wealth.

He argued that while the administration continues to promote cash grants, agricultural subsidies, tax concessions and other interventions, households remain burdened by high grocery bills and rising living costs.
