Deyas will line the homes of seven families living across the Godineau River in St John’s Village in Avocat on Divali night, as they return two years after a bridge collapsed disconnecting them from the rest of the community.
The families moved out of the area, saying it had become too risky to cross the river, and into rented apartments in separate parts of the island.
But they reunited last evening, as Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John commissioned a Bailey bridge, reconnecting the small agricultural village at St John’s Branch Road to the rest of the community.
