$600,000 bail for man who allegedly killed fisherman

(Kaieteur News) – One week after being denied bail, Videsh Singh, a 28-year-old fisherman who was charged with manslaughter allegedly committed on Franklyn Sauers, had his fortune reversed after he was eventually granted bail, in the sum of $600,000.

Singh, of Albion Front, Corentyne, first appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy on September 9, 2026 at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court in relation to the September 6, 2026 incident that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Sauers, a fisherman of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice.

Reports are that on the day in question, Singh and his friend Sauers were involved in an altercation, during which Singh fatally stabbed Sauers. Singh’s lawyer, Vinay Punwa, in his initial bail application stressed that his client had acted merely in self-defense, adding that Sauers stormed into Singh’s home and attacked him while his wife and their toddler son were home.
