DEFENCE Minister Wayne Sturge said Carnival 2026 was among the safest in the last 20 years, as he commended law enforcement agencies and outlined plans to sustain security measures implemented during the period for the rest of the year.
“This Carnival will go down as one of the safest in the last two decades,” he said, while acknowledging that no large-scale public event of that nature was entirely free of incidents.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference yesterday at the Diplomatic Centre, he addressed concerns raised about violent occurrences during the Carnival period, noting that only a small number of incidents were being cited in the context of thousands of persons attending events in confined spaces, many of whom were under the influence of alcohol.
