Mercy Hospital marks 81 years of serving Guyanese

(Kaieteur News) – St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (SJMH), one of Guyana’s longstanding Catholic healthcare institutions, is marking its 81st anniversary, celebrating more than eight decades of medical service, compassionate nursing and community-centred care.

The hospital, which was founded in September 1945 by the Sisters of Mercy, has evolved from a humble infirmary into a modern multi-specialty healthcare institution offering advanced diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic services, SJMH said in a press release.

For 81 years, Mercy Hospital said it has remained committed to providing competent healthcare to all persons, regardless of race, colour or creed. Communications Coordinator Terry Mohamed, reflecting on the milestone, said she has considered it a blessing and privilege to have served the institution for more than three decades.
