A 19-year-old man was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in an unconscious state following an altercation on Friday evening at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). Based on reports received, the teen and a resident of Sheet Anchor Village were in the company of a 27-year-old female when he became involved in a misunderstanding with three of his male cousins – also teenagers. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the parties allegedly armed themselves with cutlasses and assaulted each other. The 19-year-old was subsequently pulled away from the confrontation by the 27-year-old woman, but about five minutes later, he collapsed and lost consciousness. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted in an unconscious state and is awaiting the results of a CT scan. Two of his cousins were arrested and taken to the Central Police Station, where they are assisting with the investigation.
