A man was shot and killed by police in Sangre Grande on July 23, less than 24 hours after he escaped from prison.

The dead man has been identified as Abraham Briggs, who escaped on July 22 while assigned to work detail at the Youth Training and Rehabilitation Centre (YTRC) in Arouca.

Briggs was serving a six-year sentence for robbery with aggravation.
