THE State has admitted liability for the destruction of a man's car in a fire which gutted 14 impounded vehicles at the Licensing Office in Caroni in November 2023.
The admission came yesterday, when a scheduled trial in a High Court claim brought by Rory Rampersad against the Office of the Attorney General was vacated after the parties reached a consent order.
Under the order, entered before Justice Lisa Ramsumair- Hinds, judgment was recorded in Rampersad's favour on the issue of liability. The amount of compensation he is entitled to receive, along with legal costs, will be determined by a High Court Master.
