UniĀverĀsiĀty of the West InĀdies (UWI) StuĀdents Guild presĀiĀdent Vedanand HarĀgobĀin says thouĀsands of stuĀdents at the UniĀverĀsiĀty of the West InĀdiesā (UWI) St AuĀgusĀtine camĀpus are reĀlieved that they will not have to pay a 20 per cent inĀcrease in tuĀition fees come SepĀtemĀber 3.
The deĀciĀsion to inĀcrease the tuĀition fees at the camĀpus by 20 per cent was made in 2023, afĀter exĀtenĀsive conĀsulĀtaĀtion and reĀsearch through a speĀcial fee comĀmitĀtee comĀprisĀing guild-apĀpointĀed repĀreĀsenĀtaĀtives, acĀtuĀarĀies and busiĀness proĀfesĀsionĀals, UWI said.
The comĀmitĀtee had recĀomĀmendĀed a 25 per cent inĀcrease, but afĀter furĀther repĀreĀsenĀtaĀtion from the Guild of StuĀdents, a conĀsenĀsus was reached on April 20, 2023, that the fee inĀcrease would be 20 per cent.
