A 59-year-old woman died and her husband sustained injuries after their vehicle was struck and flipped multiple times along the Solomon Hochoy Highway early Saturday morning.
Dudnath Ramgoolam and his wife Joan were returning home from a dinner and movie outing in Chaguanas when their Toyota Prado was hit from behind near Gasparillo. The impact caused the vehicle to roll several times before landing on the northbound lane. Joan, who was wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, while Dudnath, 58, sustained leg injuries and had to drag himself to her side.
Passersby and emergency personnel rushed to assist, and both were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. Joan succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, while Dudnath survived and has called for stronger highway safety measures, alleging the other driver was speeding.
