THE People’s National Movement (PNM) has condemned the Government’s imposition of what it described as an “inheritance tax” on Housing Development Corporation (HDC) properties, stating yesterday that the new fee impacts among the most vulnerable in society.
The Opposition, in a release, called on Housing Minister Dr David Lee to resign, claiming a “total collapse of oversight” at the Ministry of Housing, and asserted that the additional tax was implemented by “stealth”.
The measure was the Government’s “latest betrayal of the people of Trinidad and Tobago”, through the “imposition of what is, in substance and effect, an inheritance tax on HDC homeowners, disguised as an administrative fee and imposed without consultation, transparency or lawful authority”.
