The PeoĀpleās NaĀtionĀal MoveĀment (PNM) supĀportĀed the Counter-ProĀlifĀerĀaĀtion FiĀnancĀing Bill, 2025, in the SenĀate on FriĀday night.
AtĀtorĀney GenĀerĀal John JeĀreĀmie pledged the esĀtabĀlishĀment of an overĀsight comĀmitĀtee as the SenĀate unanĀiĀmousĀly apĀproved the bill. āI took a note on the point that there is a need for us to deĀvelĀop some sort of workĀing group to overĀsee this legĀisĀlaĀtion. Of course, you know that I donāt pracĀtice on the crimĀiĀnal side, so my exĀpeĀriĀence would be on the civĀil side. But we have probĀlems on the civĀil side as well. I am goĀing to comĀmit again to this house this evening to do someĀthing about the rules and the legĀisĀlaĀtion and about setĀting up an overĀsight comĀmitĀtee to deal with the probĀlems as they arise,ā JeĀreĀmie said.
He alĀso comĀmendĀed the tone of the deĀbate. āMr PresĀiĀdent, I want to thank each and every one of the memĀbers of the SenĀate this evening for what has been an unĀcharĀacĀterĀisĀtiĀcalĀly civĀil and proĀducĀtive deĀbate. Now, when I say āeach and every memĀber of the SenĀateā, what I alĀways mean is the inĀdeĀpenĀdent bench exĀcludĀed, beĀcause the inĀdeĀpenĀdent bench is by deĀfĀiĀnĀiĀtion civĀil. It is my colĀleaguesā opĀpoĀsite who someĀtimes enĀgage in comĀbat. There was no comĀbat this afĀterĀnoon.ā
