Independent Senator Dr Marlene Attzs said domestic laws to support Financial Action Task Force (FATF) measures against illegal money were vital, but local entities would not be too heavily burdened by the cost of implementation. She was addressing the Senate on September 26 on the Miscellaneous Provisions (FATF Compliance) Bill, 2025 and The Counter-Proliferation Financing Bill, 2025.
Dr Marlene Attzs said the bill was not merely an abstract piece of legislation but was a safeguard for TT's economic participation in the world.
She said the bill addressed anti-money laundering, counter terrorist financing and counter (nuclear) proliferation financing.
