Silk Cotton Drive is gearing up to commemorate this year’s 63rd Independence Day with a twofold celebration that will see the Homeland Gardens, Cunupia community coming together in both patriotism and pride.

Today, the community will host its annual Independence celebration with a series of activities for the young, the old, and everyone in between. The event will also serve as a platform to celebrate one of their own, daughter of the soil Dr Sihlé Letren, who was crowned Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2025 on July 20.

In a telephone interview, Letren’s father, who is also one of the organisers of the community celebration, said the event has grown over the years. He added that this year’s celebration is even more special because his daughter will be honoured.
