(Kaieteur News) – Borderline personality disorder (BPD) affects how individuals experience themselves, regulate emotions and form relationships. Their feelings are real, but they may become so intense that the person has difficulty thinking calmly or responding proportionately. A small disagreement feels like complete rejection. A delayed telephone call may be interpreted as abandonment. Emotional distance may awaken the terror of being unwanted.
BPD is one of the most misunderstood and stigmatised mental-health conditions. People living with BPD are sometimes unfairly labelled as “dramatic,” “manipulative,” “attention-seeking” or “difficult.” Beneath the behaviour, however, there is frequently a person struggling with intense emotional pain, an unstable sense of identity and a profound fear of rejection or abandonment.
