Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath has warned that Government will not be âbulliedâ or âintimidatedâ by the Communication Workersâ Union (CWU) amid an escalating wage dispute with the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT).
Padarath said yesterday there has never been any discussion with the union about a 10% wage increase, stressing that TSTTâs recent profitability must be considered in the context of the companyâs long-term sustainability.
TSTT last Friday warned the CWU that industrial action was against the law and that any threat to shut down the company over a disputed 10% wage increase would be prohibited under the Industrial Relations Act, since telecommunications is classified as an essential service.
