PUBLIC Utilities Minister Barry Padarath has insisted government has no plans to fire workers at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).He made this comment before the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives approved a budgetary allocation of $3,270,777074 to his ministry.
Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzales, a former public utilities minister, recalled in the 2010-2015 period, the then UNC-led People's Partnership coalition had a plan to fire 30,000 workers. He said the PNM thwarted that plan when it assumed office in September 7, 2015, and developed a transformation plan to make WASA more efficient.
Gonzales added that initiative has resulted in large sectors of the population receiving an improved water supply.
