Pregnant women suspected of tossing loaded firearm after Police intercepts minibus

Hours after a Route 41 minibus was intercepted along the Heroes Highway under suspicion of transporting illegal items, the police discovered a 9mm pistol with eight live rounds of matching ammunition hidden in a clump of bushes close to the Sage Pond Police Outpost. The firearm and ammunition were reportedly suspected to have been disposed of by an occupant of the intercepted minibus.

Police stated that ranks, acting on information, intercepted the minibus in the vicinity of Forrester Place along the dumpsite road at about 23: 20 on Friday. At the time, there were approximately 25 occupants, including children. They were all escorted to the Sage Pond Police Outpost, where searches were conducted, but no illegal items were found. However, some of the female passengers were subsequently allowed to use a washroom at the rear of the outpost before the vehicle and occupants were allowed to leave.

Police later received information that a firearm was allegedly thrown into the area behind the outpost by one of the women who appeared to be pregnant and who had earlier been permitted to use the washroom. As such, at 00:23 on Saturday, the area was searched, and the black Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol with the serial number intact was found in the bushes approximately two to three feet from the outpost. Upon inspection, a magazine containing eight live hollow-point rounds of ammunition was discovered. An investigation has been launched.
