US Navy Commander George Menninger said the USNS Comfort is expected to see at least 1,500 people over the next few days as it provides medical care to members of the public on the ship and at the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA).
Menninger made the statement while giving media a tour of the ship on August 6. The ship will be in Trinidad from August 5-11 and professionals from the ship, along with Health Ministry officials and TT medical professionals will see patients at NAPA from August 7-9.
“On average, about 500-600 patients a day come through the medical sites. We have different medical lines of efforts, optometry, adult medicine, paediatric medicine, dental, are our four main services. We have women’s health, dermatology, cardiology specialities at the med site. It’s open to the public and we will see them for whatever service they want. We also work with the Ministry of Health. We can help out with chronic conditions, not necessarily acute ones.”
