JOB creation was one of the central promises of the United National Congress (UNC) ahead of the April 28, 2025 general election.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had pledged to generate more than 50,000 employment opportunities and rebuild an economy capable of providing sustainable livelihoods for citizens during her Government’s tenure.
In the first year of the UNC’s five-year term, the Government launched a national revitalisation programme and undertook a recruitment drive targeting 20,000 jobs in the first phase and introduced several employment initiatives aimed at addressing unemployment and stimulating economic activity.
