ERC ENGAGES PORT KAITUMA STAKEHOLDERS, SUPPORTS FAMILIES AFFECTED BY MV BARIMA TRAGEDY

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) hosted an interactive stakeholder engagement on  Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Port Kaituma NDC Compound, bringing together more  than 70 residents, community leaders and stakeholders from across the Matarkai Sub-region,  Region One (Barima-Waini).

The engagement brought together residents from a wide cross-section of communities, including  Waterfront-Port Kaituma, Canal Bank, Citrus Grove, Fitzburg, Matthew’s Ridge, Falls Top, Log  Pond, Turn Basin, Oronoque, Arakaka, and the One, Two, Three and Four Miles areas.

The delegation was led by ERC Chairman Shaikh Moeenul Hack and included Commissioners  Norris Witter, Ashton Simon, Rev. Rodwell Porter, Ras Khafra (Mr. Deon Dick), Mrs.  Chandrowtie Sarran and Pandit Krishn Sharma, alongside Chief Executive Officer (ag), Ms. Oma  Devi-Sukhu.
