ANOTHER special statutory meeting of the Siparia Borough Corporation ended in confrontation yesterday, with Mayor Doonath Mayrhoo asking a municipal police officer to escort PNM alderman Christopher Encinas from the chamber.
This followed a contentious special statutory meeting last week, which descended into cross-talk and name-calling before former United National Congress alderman Victor Roberts, Encinas and other PNM members staged a walkout. The PNM holds the majority in the borough following the crossing of the floor by Roberts and Siparia West/Fyzabad councillor Jason Ali, as well as the death of councillor Romona Victor.
In separate interviews following yesterday’s meeting, both Mayrhoo and Encinas accused the other side of attempting to hijack the corporation’s business.
