Guyana-UN 60th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp unveiled

The Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) Country Team in Georgetown recently commissioned a commemorative postal stamp to mark the 60th Anniversary of Guyana’s admission as a member state to the United Nations on September 20, 1966.

The stamp, which includes the map of Guyana and the official UN emblem, signifies Guyana’s enduring partnership with the UN and our commitment to the work of the Organisation. Guyana has maintained robust engagement with the UN over the past six decades. Our representatives have assumed positions of responsibility within the UN system on numerous occasions, including those of President of General Assembly, President of the Security Council, Chair of the Council of Namibia, Judge on the International Court of Justice (ICJ), among others.

Guyana’s commitment to multilateralism and the pursuit of a sustainable and peaceful world through cooperation and joint endeavour are embedded in our collaboration with the UN. Guyana has remained steadfast in our commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, which remain as relevant today as they were 60 years ago. The UN Charter and the Organisation’s institutional machinery have been instrumental in Guyana’s quest for development, for the preservation of our sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the peaceful settlement of disputes with neighbouring countries.
