Guyana marks 60 years of UN membership, reaffirms commitment to multilateralism

Kaieteur News- Guyana on Sunday marked 60 years as a member of the United Nations, reaffirming its commitment to multilateralism, international law, peace and the principles of the UN Charter.
On September 20, 1966, during the 21st session of the UN General Assembly, Guyana was admitted as a Member State by acclamation, months after gaining independence.
In a statement government said, Guyana a newly independent nation at the time expressed its determination to be “an active rather than a sleeping member” of the international organisation.
