Housing Minister David Lee says applicants for Housing Development Corporation (HDC) homes will no longer be required to pay hundreds of dollars in title search fees unless they have been approved and allocated a home.
Lee said the United National Congress (UNC) Government had changed the previous arrangement, which resulted in applicants paying as much as $700 for property searches without any guarantee that they would receive a home.

The minister’s clarification follows concerns raised by Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, who said people had complained to him about being required to pay search fees to the HDC despite never receiving housing allocations.
