(Kaieteur News) – The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is reminding the public that Guyana’s Sexual Offences Act provides strong legal protections for children against sexual abuse by relatives and adults placed in positions of trust.
During the DPP’s Justice Matters programme on Thursday, State Counsel Caressa Henry explained that the law criminalises sexual activity involving children by family members as well as by persons who exploit positions of authority over minors.
She said the legislation also addresses situations where adults misuse positions of responsibility to sexually exploit children.
