(Kaieteur News) – Some 532 girls under the age of 18 were placed in emergency care between 2020 and 2025 after experiencing abuse, according to Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Vindhya Persaud.
The figures were disclosed in a written response to questions submitted to the National Assembly by Opposition Member of Parliament and Leader of the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), Amanza Walton.
Walton had asked the minister to state how many emergency safe housing placements were provided to girls under 18 fleeing domestic violence during the 2020–2025 period.
