A po­lice of­fi­cer at­tached to the Port of Spain Guard Unit died in a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent along the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 12:30pm, the of­fi­cer—so far on­ly iden­ti­fied as Con­sta­ble Gill—was dri­ving his pri­vate ve­hi­cle and was head­ing north near the Cou­va ex­it, when he lost con­trol of the car.

The ve­hi­cle crashed in­to an elec­tric­i­ty pole, and the of­fi­cer ap­peared to have died on im­pact.
