Af­ter sev­er­al days of alerts that reached the or­ange lev­el, the Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Ser­vice has of­fi­cial­ly dis­con­tin­ued its river­ine flood alert for the Ca­roni and South Oropouche Riv­er basins.

The green-lev­el can­cel­la­tion took ef­fect at 10 am on Sat­ur­day, fol­low­ing steady im­prove­ment in riv­er con­di­tions and no fur­ther sig­nif­i­cant rain­fall in the fore­cast.

The Ca­roni Riv­er, par­tic­u­lar­ly near El Car­men and up­stream ar­eas, has fall­en well be­low crit­i­cal thresh­olds. Fur­ther down­stream at Bam­boo Set­tle­ment #3, wa­ter lev­els re­main el­e­vat­ed but are now be­low 80% of riv­er ca­pac­i­ty and con­tin­ue to de­cline slow­ly.
