Even though Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s Government scrapped the demerit point system, stricter penalties and fines are coming to deal with drivers and address road safety issues.
The Express has examined the Finance Bill, 2025, which contains clauses designed to implement a number of measures Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo outlined in the 2026 national budget.
The bill, which will be debated in the Parliament tomorrow, proposes tougher road safety and transport rules with higher fines across several traffic laws.
