The Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Bill 2026 was passed in the House of Representatives at 3:32 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The bill, which allows the government to end the State of Emergency and implement Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO), giving law enforcement extended powers in areas deemed crime hotspots, was approved by 27 votes in favour and 11 against, with no abstentions.
The second reading of the bill was moved by Attorney General John Jeremie and debated by seven MPs. Jeremie also delivered the wind-up, after which the bill was committed to a Committee of the Whole for clause-by-clause consideration. No amendments were made, and the bill was subsequently read a third time and passed.
