Trinidad and Tobago will know tomorrow if the Government has secured the votes it requires from the Independent Bench to pass legislation granting the Prime Minister and law enforcement the authority to establish zones of special operations in designated “hotspots” in the country.
Debate on the Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Bill, 2026, began late on Tuesday evening and continued yesterday.
The bill was passed in the Lower House last Friday with the Government’s majority and now requires the support of at least four Independent senators in the Senate, as the Opposition is against the legislation.
