The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has marked the revitalization of Trinidad and Tobago’s most prestigious environmental recognition programme, hosting the Green Leaf Awards (GLA) 2026 under the theme “Celebrating Sustainability in the Private Sector.”
The ceremony brought together a broad cross-section of stakeholders from government ministers and business leaders to academics, civil society representatives and members of the international community, all united around a shared commitment to environmental progress.
Delivering the feature address, Minister of Finance Senator the Honourable Davendranath Tancoo stressed that environmental responsibility and economic development are not competing priorities but complementary ones, both essential to building a resilient and prosperous nation. The Honourable Farley Chavez Augustine, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, echoed those sentiments, underscoring the importance of environmental stewardship for sustainable development across both islands.
