THE United States government via the US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago has confirmed it will be investing over US$500 million to plan, design and build a new embassy compound in Port of Spain.
In a social media post yesterday, the embassy said the project will support the creation of “scores of jobs” and will feature modern, eco-friendly designs, reflecting diplomatic priorities and investment in the country. The statement did not provide a timeline for completion but emphasised the expected local employment opportunities during construction.
The latest figure represents an increase from earlier estimates. When construction began last year on the new embassy site in Maraval, officials said the cost of the project was more than US$400 million with hundreds of Trinidad and Tobago nationals expected to be employed and the final campus designed to showcase advanced materials and environmentally conscious features, according to local news coverage.
