Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar took to the social media platform X yesterday to celebrate what she described as “major victories for the people” and the fulfilment of campaign promises made ahead of this year’s general election.
In her post, the Prime Minister highlighted three commitments she said were honoured this week, calling them evidence of her administration’s focus on “people-centred governance.”
Among the achievements listed was the passage of the Home Invasion (Self-Defence and Defence of Property) Bill, 2025 in the House of Representatives. The legislation expands the rights of citizens to defend themselves and their property during home invasions—an issue that was a central feature of the United National Congress (UNC) campaign.
