Guyana president pays tribute to Mighty Sparrow

Guyana Pres­i­dent Dr Ir­faan Ali has paid trib­ute to ca­lyp­so leg­end the Mighty Spar­row, de­scrib­ing his death as the end of an era in Caribbean mu­sic and cul­ture.

Spar­row, whose re­al name was Slinger Fran­cis­co, died on Sep­tem­ber 27 at the age of 91, leav­ing be­hind a mu­si­cal lega­cy span­ning sev­er­al decades.

In a state­ment, Ali said Spar­row’s pass­ing had brought a “prayer­ful qui­etude” over Caribbean ca­lyp­so, adding that the re­gion had lost its undis­put­ed King of Ca­lyp­so.
