ATTORNEYS representing Earl Richards, one of the ten men on remand for the murder of former independent senator and senior counsel Dana Seetahal, are challenging the legality of their client’s detention at Teteron Barracks, Chaguaramas.
The legal team contends that holding an unconvicted individual on remand, in what they argue functions as a “District Prison”, contravenes specific provisions of the Prisons Act (Chapter 13:01).
Lawyers for Rajaee Ali, who is also charged with Seetahal’s murder, have not yet publicly raised this specific point concerning the nature of Teteron Barracks as a district prison, where he is also being held.
