As United States-Venezuela tensions continue to flare in the aftermath of a deadly American military strike on an alleged Venezuelan vessel in the southern Caribbean sea on Tuesday, the fishermen who ply their trade within these waters say they are operating with heightened concern.
The US on Tuesday confirmed that its military had launched a lethal strike on a vessel that was allegedly ferrying drugs from Venezuela. The attack, ordered directly by US President Donald Trump, left 11 people dead on board the vessel, according to the White House, who it later said were part of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang—a group Washington has designated as a terrorist organisation.
Footage released from the White House on Tuesday showed the craft engulfed in flames.
